Why "Enjoy Your Cheerios"?

When I first started this blog, I was stumped over what to name it. What name would be catchy while also conveying the health-oriented, food-related, whimsical content to be displayed? This blog is a place for personal anecdotes and advice. Suddenly, it hit me.

The blog name dates back to my first semester at college. My friends and I were taking a usual ride on the T--Boston's subway system--one Autumn afternoon. Nothing out of the ordinary was happening: we were all chatting, occasionally losing our balance as the T swerved. Perhaps the only action of some note occurring at the time was my friend H.S. snacking on Cheerios from a ziplock bag. Big whoop.

As the train halted to a stop, a man in a worn Red Sox sweatshirt and salt-and-pepper hair brushed past us. Just as he was about to exit the T, he turned to H.S., gave an innocent, subtle smile, and--with the thick undertones of a pure Boston accent--said:

"Enjoy yah Cheerios."

Enjoy your Cheerios? Of course, my friends and I were highly entertained by this random albeit friendly remark. It has turned into a beloved inside joke, a phrase we yell out arbitrarily from time to time. Then, it just seemed funny. However, in retrospect, Random Man's words can be viewed in a more significant manner.

"Enjoy your Cheerios" was a friendly piece of food-related advice from a well-meaning stranger to a carefree college student. Well hey, that's exactly the purpose of my blog! I'm not a nutrition student or a registered dietician or a talented cook; I am simply a college student highly interested in food-related current events and living your healthiest life. While I will present some factual, proven information, my blog posts will be full of my own personal opinions and friendly advice.

Advice like, for example, "Enjoy Your Cheerios." :)
